“My passion for Plein Air painting
began in Paris by being surrounded by so much history and
beauty and the classic life of the Parisienne art scene.
It took years and retirement to find a similar artistic
community with its own brand of spectacular `canvasses`
waiting to be painted.”
While the newlyweds resided in Paris, (1952-1953) Clarence studied
art at the Academie Julien. The history of France and the great art
inspired him. French Impressionists especially entranced him. Plein
Air (out of doors) became his lifelong passion. Returning to Los Angeles,
Weiss worked as a freelance graphic designer. In the evenings, he studied
at the Chouinard School of Art and the Art Center School of Design.
After retiring from his forty year career as a graphic designer, Clarence
and his wife moved to Cambria, an art colony on the Central Coast of
California, to resume his beloved “Plein Air” painting.
Weiss paints in the style of the French Impressionists, outdoors, direct
from life. His paintings grace collections in San Francisco, California’s
Central Coast, Los Angeles, Newport Beach , Florida and Paris, France.
